WHEN TO GO: May to September is dry and cool and a pleasant time to visit.

IDEAL LENGTH: 9 Days

COST: From $3,621 per person

DAYS 4 - 6: THE SACRED VALLEY

After a short flight from Lima to Cusco (not included in pricing), you'll be whisked away to the Sacred Valley, whose moderate altitude, pleasant climate, beautiful scenery, picturesque villages and friendly local people make it a sight not to be missed. At Hacienda Sarapampa, feel the pride in every detail as the third-generation owners host an exploration of the property ending in a delicious farm to table lunch. You will witness the locals at work, and learn the history, spiritual significance and future of the famous giant white Andean corn. More than just an elegant lunch, it is an entertaining cultural journey.

After an overnight at the fabulous Sol Y Luna, head out for an excursion to a sight you've never seen. Set in the peaceful pastures of the Sacred Valley lie several enormous circular, terraced depressions in the earth, whose purpose remains uncertain. Although their crop circle-like appearance invites otherworldly hypotheses, we think these unusual Inca ruins were actually a sophisticated crop laboratory designed to study the optimum growing conditions for different species. Continue on to the salt mines of Maras, where seeing the locals mine for salt by hand is truly a unique experience. You will have the option to buy some salt directly from the source, supporting the local economy and making an excellent souvenir.

The next day, embark on a “locals only” take on the Sacred Valley, that allows adventurous travelers to avoid the masses and get a look at (and taste of) the rural treasures that the locals have enjoyed for generations. The itinerary is flexible depending on your preferences, as well as the goings-ons of the particular day. Choose between markets, small villages, local farms, learning traditional cooking, meeting artisans and more. Whatever you choose, prepare for an authentic encounter in the heart of the Andes.

DAY 1 - 3: LIMA

Welcome to Peru! Your driver will meet you at the airport and transfer you to Hotel B. Enjoy the rest of your first day at leisure

The next morning, go on a food tour of Lima. Kicking off in a local roastery for a taste of organic, hand-picked Peruvian coffee, this excursion will have you explore Lima’s rich culinary scene inside and out. First, we’ll discover the colonial streets of Lima’s bohemian district, Barranco and a splendid local market in Miraflores to sample the exotic fruits and local delicacies. Afterwards, you will stop at one of the city’s top seafood restaurants to learn all the secrets of how to prepare the perfect ceviche and pisco sour. Guided by the chef and bartender, you’ll learn to make them yourself from scratch – the taste will be even better! To end the excursion, you’ll have lunch at La Huaca Pucllana, a marvellous restaurant with spectacular views of the historical pre-Inca ruins and pyramid right next door.

Enjoy your afternoon at leisure.

There are many ways to get to know a city, but we believe that one of the most interesting and pleasurable ways is through its food. This is especially true of Lima, with the infinity of textures, colors, aromas, and flavors that this generous land provides. The rich culinary history and traditions are truly the pride of Peruvians, so any attempt to understand the local Lima culture must go through its cuisine.

On day 3, celebrity chef Penélope Alzamora will share her favorite local market and help you pick out the freshest ingredients for your meal, and show you a few of her favorite parts of Barranco as well. Perhaps stop to enjoy some local, organic coffee before returning to Penélope´s apartment for a pisco sour and a cooking class to remember. You will learn essential Peruvian culinary techniques while preparing a full menu of ceviches and tapas, then you will feast upon your gourmet creations while enjoying the beautiful view of Lima´s coast.
